‘Flame’ became qualified all-age at the Quebec Retriever Club field trial on May 25. 2003. She did this by ‘winning’ the Qualifying stake. I think she was determined to QAA that weekend as she went on to finish the Amateur All-Age stake as well, earning a CM the same day.

Flame has matured into a very exciting field trial dog. Our goal for her was simply for her to become QAA. She has now reached that goal and has also earned her QFTR title.

Flame is completely amateur owned, trained and handled. She does not have the advantage of going south with a pro every winter, so training time is limited for her. Flame is basically trained until October each year. Then, she takes a long break, is bred, cares for her litter until spring, when training resumes. Trials begin in May so there is not much time to play catch-up before the season begins. She has accomplished allot under these circumstances.

Flame has a great training attitude. She is no princess either. She can keep up with our males, running and playing as hard as any of them. Still, she loves to be worked. Flame hits the water like a ton of bricks and is a very good marker. She demonstrates great style on both blinds and marks. Best of all, Flame is a wonderful companion as well as a superior hunting dog.
